Viduthalai: Part 2 is a film by Vetri Maaran that combines elements of a sequel and a prequel. The film follows the arrest of revolutionary/extremist Vaathiyaar, who has been on the E Company's list. The film is richly detailed, focusing on the politics and decision-making in the upper echelons of power. The romantic track between Perumal and Mahalakshmi is a bright spot.
The film also shows how activists can get blindsided in their quest for justice. However, the film feels underwhelming due to its repetitiveness of themes such as caste, authority, power corruption, and violence as a means of protest. The film's major arc, the coming-of-age of Kumaresan, could have been more impactful if it had happened over the course of a single film, as the climax doesn't deliver the gut punch it should have.
