Vanangaan, directed by Bala, is a template Bala film with elements of social awkwardness, violence, and exploitation. Set in Kanniyakumari, the film revolves around Kotti, a deaf and dumb man, and his'sister' Devi. Kotti witnesses lecherous men exploiting visually challenged girls at an orphanage and pursues them with vengeance.
Devi fears for his safety, as the law is waiting to catch up with him. The film's storytelling and filmmaking seem past their expiry date, with three action blocks and a romantic track that are functional. The second half adds curiosity due to the protagonist's disabilities, but the beats are too familiar, leaving little surprise or suspense. Arun Vijay's performance cannot elevate the routine nature of the film's proceedings.
