Amaran is a biographical war drama based on Major Mukund Varadarajan, a member of the 44th Battalion of the Rashtriya Rifles who was killed in action during an encounter operation in Kashmir's Shopian district. The film, directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, chronicles Mukund's life from his time at Madras Christian College to his rise in the Indian army. Despite the film's overdramatic farewell, it manages to honor the brave soldier Mukund was and continues to be remembered.

The story is told through the eyes of Mukund's wife, Indhu Rebecca Varghese. The film's action setpieces are nail-biting and keep the audience on the edge of their seats. The supporting cast, including Bhuvan Arora and Rahul Bose, are aptly cast, with Geetha Kailasam playing Mukund's mother. Sivakarthikeyan, a standout actor, is phenomenal as the film progresses.

Sai Pallavi, a Malayali from Trivandrum, is good at emoting her character's feelings but her Malayalam pronunciation is poor. Tamil mainstream cinema often fails to focus on casting female actors, as they often cast Malayalis or North Indians as the female lead.

Although there are glitches in the film, Amaran is a worthy tribute to Major Mukund Varadarajan's legacy and makes us cherish and celebrate him.
