Tumbbad is a psychological horror film that creates hyperbole by making ordinary men into monsters.
The film is set in Tumbbad, a village in Maharashtra north of the British Raj. The story revolves around Vinayak Rao, a Brahmin boy who loses his innocence in tragedy.
He is introduced to Hastar, a mythical creature possessed by a goddess interested in digging up Hastar’s treasure reminiscent of the mythology of the films Pan’s Labyrinth (2006) and Eraserhead (1977). The cinematography and performance make it a truly awe-inspiring experience for the audience.
