"Challengers" is a revolutionary drama when it comes to the love triangle between tennis pro Tashi Art. Tashi, a former teenage tennis pro, becomes the boss, and his sole spectator is Art, the top seed. Art faces an existential crisis and Tashi suggests she enter a low-level competition to reconnect with her strengths. However, a hidden agenda unfolds when Tashi comes between Art and Patrick, who is a sadistic bully. The film explores the emotional guts of Tashi, Patrick and Art, but it can be too ambitious for its own good. The film’s score is demanding and relentless, making 1970s American New Wave end up all over the place and feeling unearned.

"Challengers" is a visceral, spontaneous and sometimes animalistic film that explores the human heart and mind, more Hollywood than Cannes reminiscent of the 1940s thriller of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, the trio of Zendaya, Tashi, Faist and O 'Connor The lead actors carry themselves like movie stars. The main characters’ point of view is from the outside looking in, allowing viewers to see the minds and hearts of the players. The film is more of a sports movie, showing how what happens in the arena mirrors what happens in other areas of the athletes’ lives.
