Romeo is a romantic romcom about Arivu and Leela, a couple who get married due to family pressure. Set in 2024, the film aims to be a thrilling romcom with an emotional core. However, it cannot do this. Leading couple Vijay Antony and Mirnalini Ravi do not have good chemistry and cannot register as stand-alone characters. 

Like Arivu and Leela’s situation, there is also a story of self in the film, bridging the gap between fact and fiction. The film’s metaness works, but the dialogue is harmless and enjoyable. The subtle hero-development scenario falls flat, and Romeo fails to be a two-pronged romantic film to root for. 

It tries to be like Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Kavalan but acknowledges rather than believes in the absurdity of their films.
