"Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" is a two-hour film directed by Gil Kenan that balances old and new elements of the series. The film has an original cast that includes Bill Murray as Venkman, Dan Aykroyd as Stantz, Ernie Hudson as Zeddemore and Annie Potts as Janine. Also on display are the descendants of the 1984 original, Carrie Coon’s Callie, Phoebe (Mckenna Grace), and her son Trevor (Finn Wolfhard).

Based on the tale of an ancient monster released from the iron sphere, the film also features a cameo from Patton Oswalt as an ancient language professor at the New York Public Library, where a permanent ice age threatens destroy Manhattan and the parts of Queens. However, this film lacks the energy and excitement of the original films.

Phoebe, who is highly skilled and hardworking, is forbidden from performing exorcisms because of her age. He meets Melody, a teenage demon, who died in the fire but trapped in a purgatory. The film doesn't allow for any real romance between the characters, instead focusing on the strange trials of the little Marshmallow Man who stays fragile and the cultural phenomenon of the "Ghostbusters" franchise on the occasion of the 19th century.
